A folding stool for a street-side chai vendor

A chai vendor works from a small cart on a busy street. Through the day he moves the cart twice: once at noon to follow the shade, and once in the evening to the bus stop where the crowd is. He carries everything himself, in one trip, while pushing the cart. He currently sits on an upturned crate. It is uncomfortable for the eight hours he spends on it, and it takes up space he would rather use for cups. Design a folding stool for him. Sketch it in use and folded, and label the parts that let it fold, carry and stay stable on an uneven footpath.

Evaluation criteria

  • Appropriateness of the folding mechanism and how clearly it is shown
  • Stability on an uneven surface
  • Ease of carrying and storing on the cart
  • Comfort for long periods of sitting
  • Clarity of the sketch and the labelling of parts

Pencil only. No colour. Explain the design through drawings and short labels, not through written paragraphs.
